Harry Potter 30 Day Challenge | Days 16-25

I know I’m so not doing this properly. D:

Day 16 | There Wasn’t a Day 16 for Some Odd Reason

O.O

Day 17 | Are You Excited About the Deathly Hallows Movie…

…or scared it won’t do the book justice? I’m mostly excited. Actually, I can’t wait!!! And there are two movies this time, so hopefully they’ll be able to tie up the story in a satisfying manner.

Day 18 | Least Favorite Book

Again, I’m going to have to go with Chamber of Secrets. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like Harry’s life was extra-depressing that year. Also, I remember after reading it, I was terrified of bathrooms. I kept imagining myself looking into the mirror and seeing a basilisk and getting petrified. I also didn’t like Order of the Phoenix at certain parts, like when Umbridge was messing things up and Harry was busy being a moody teenager. (I still liked it though! Because Luna was introduced.)

Day 19 | Books vs. Films

Definitely the books. The movies are great, but they just can’t replace J.K. Rowling’s storytelling. There’s so much more in the books that the movies just can’t include.

Day 20 | If You Could Meet One Member of the Cast…

…who would it be? Probably Emma Watson. She plays one of my favorite characters, and in real life she seems like a very intelligent person who would be fun to have a conversation with. Although if I actually did meet her, I don’t think I’d be calm enough to have a conversation. I’d just go into fangirl mode. xP

Day 21 | Which Character Would You Bring Back…

…out of all the ones that died? Oh gosh. If I had that power, I would bring back Fred. For George. Because the two of them just go together.

Day 22 | Harry Potter vs. Twilight

Does this even have to be asked? HARRY POTTER ALL THE WAY.

Harry Potter is a tale of adventure, mystery, romance, and coming-of-age. Twilight is about a girl who has the misfortune of having to choose whether she wants a vampire or a werewolf for a boyfriend.

Okay, confession time: I totally went through a vampire phase when I was fifteen. I read the first Twilight book and thought, “OMG THIS BOOK THIS AMAZING. I WANT MY OWN EDWARD; WHERE’S MY EDWARD?!” Then I read the second one and the third one, and I liked each book less and less. By the time I reached the fourth book, I had come to my senses. I finished Breaking Dawn (sort of—I skipped a bunch of chapters that described Bella’s pregnancy for fear that I’d throw up on a library book) and thought, “Wow, this is garbage. WHY AM I READING THIS?!” And thus ended my vampire phase.

[Side note: my vampire phase didn’t only include Twilight. I also read Vampire Knight, a manga with incredible art but a not-so-great story. I eventually stopped reading that too.]

Day 23 | What Part of the Books or Movies Makes You Cry?

Hmmmmm. Good question. SS: nothing. CoS: nothing again. PoA: still nothing. GoF: I wasn’t that attached to Cedric, so…nothing. OotP: when Sirius died and Harry was in Dumbledore’s office throwing a grief-filled fit. HBP: everyone’s reactions to Dumbledore’s death. DH: when Dobby died. And Fred. :(

Day 24 | Any Particular Scene…

…you wished would have been put in the movie but wasn’t? Uh…in HBP I would’ve liked to see more of Dumbledore’s memories of young Tom Riddle. Dumbledore’s funeral would’ve also made a poignant scene.

Day 25 | Nineteen Years Later

Are you happy with how it turned out, or do you wish something was different? Besides the fact that I’m not a Harry/Ginny shipper (I don’t mind Ron/Hermione), yes I am happy with the way it turned out. I know some people didn’t like how everyone ended up with the people they were supposed to end up with (like a perfect, cheesy fairytale ending), and how some of the children’s names were really bizarre, but I liked it. I loved seeing Harry with his family, at peace and happy with his life for once. He really deserves a break, doesn’t he? :)

…

Maybe for the last five days I’ll remember to post on a daily basis. O.O On another note, I have 300 followers now?! Hello and thank you for following! :)

I LOVED Wuthering Heights -- and now that you mention it, it DOES seem a little like Bad Romance Also, are you going to read The Color Purple? If not, you definitely should.

Haha, I know right? I mean, just take the first two lines:

I want your ugly
I want your disease

Heathcliff was considered ugly, and Catherine wanted him. Both of them weren’t quite right in their minds, something that could be considered as a disease. And then there was Linton, who was always sick, and for awhile Cathy wanted him in the sense that she wanted to take care of him.

And then the chorus:

I want your love and
I want your revenge
You and me could write a bad romance

I want your love and
All your lovers’ revenge
You and me could write a bad romance

Heathcliff was pretty much all about revenge—he wanted to get back at Edgar for marrying Catherine, and he wanted to get back at his older brother for abusing him when he was younger. A lot of the other lines fit too. xP

I have not read The Color Purple before, but I’ll add it to my list! Thanks for the recommendation! :)

fifty books challenge update #22

Between this update and the last, I have read four more books. :)

First, The Notebook. It wasn’t too bad. I’ve seen bits and pieces of the movie, and I’m not really into romance novels, but I thought this one was alright. I must have a heart of stone though, according to one of the many glowing reviews at the beginning of the book, because I didn’t shed a single tear. O.O Then again, I don’t really cry when I read books—unless they involve animals, especially dogs, like Where the Red Fern Grows and The Incredible Journey, both of which are excellent books, by the way.

Second, Sense and Sensibility by everybody’s favorite Miss Austen. I also enjoyed this one, even though her style of writing got rather tedious at times. I think this reflects the society at the time too, with everybody having to call on everyone else and pretending to like everyone for sake of keeping up appearances. I did appreciate her humor though, and laughed a few times at the satiric comments she made.

Third, Peter Pan, a children’s classic. I think I read this once before, but I evidently forgot a lot of things because there was a lot that felt new to me. For instance, I forgot that they had a dog for a nanny and that Mr. Darling actually had to calculate whether or not they could keep their children, and I didn’t remember Mrs. Darling’s “kiss” either, which kind of confused me for a bit. But anyway, I love this story. There’s just something about the way the author writes that makes you feel like a little kid again…a little kid who doesn’t want to grow up. :)

And fourth, Wuthering Heights. It reminds me of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance, and that’s all I’m going to say about it. O.O

I did get it thanks! I never check Yahoo hahaha. But yeah it's chandker cause one of my friends got drunk and couldn't spell my name so it's kind of a nickname haha. Boo, I can't use it though. I'm on a Mac :\ Thanks so much though! I'll have to figure out another way

Oh haha that’s funny. Darn. Well, you can always try going through <http://sneakme.net/> or <http://aniscartujo.com/webproxy/>. How long will you be in Shanghai? I’m here for over two months, so I had to find a way. xD

Harry Potter 30 Day Challenge | Day 15 | Your Best Friend(s) at Hogwarts

This is tough because I have to consider what year I want to imagine myself at Hogwarts and then I have to take into account the house I’m in. If I put myself in Harry’s generation, then during that time most people befriended people within their own houses. So, basically I have to go with Luna. Maybe Hermione too, since we both spend a lot of time in the library. :P

Harry Potter 30 Day Challenge | Days 13 & 14

Sorry guys, my Internet here is painfully slow and it likes to freeze up when I want to post something. >_<

Anyway, onto the HP stuff! :)

Day 13 | Your Least Favorite Movie

Hmm, I don’t know, really. I guess I’ll go with Chamber of Secrets because it’s the one I tend to forget about. Like, if I feel like rewatching one of the HP movies, it’s the last one on my list. There’s nothing particular about it that I dislike though…not that I can think of anyway.

Oh, I remember watching it when I first came out…I was deathly afraid of the Basilisk and I closed my eyes when it came on screen for fear that I’d be petrified or worse. xD

Day 14 | Team Voldemort or Team Harry

Team Harry, duh. While we’re on this subject, I have to say that I don’t really get why some people choose to support Voldemort over Harry. I mean, I totally understand and agree that Voldemort and some of his followers (like Bellatrix, mostly) are extremely fascinating characters, but would you really want to become a Death Eater yourself and torture and kill innocent people? Just saying. And I’m not directing this at anyone in particular because I know a lot of people here with awesome tumblrs who post stuff that’s pro-Voldy, which I really have no problem with. :)

so, tumblr is blocked in china....

GRRR.

RAWR.

ARGH.

You may have noticed that I have found a way to access it (MUAHAHAHAHAHA), thanks to my lovely and magical friend Aimee. I don’t know how reliable it is though. I’ll try to post when I can, but for the next two months I probably won’t be taking up too much of your dashboard space. :(

Also, I haven’t been able to watch the Glee finale yet, which is kind of killing me here. D: But I’m working on changing that right now!

I hate not being able to go on tumblr everyday.

I’m addicted, okay? Plus I feel really disconnected from the world. Haha.

Anyhow, I’m at the airport in Hong Kong right now and I finally have access to the Internet. Hawaii was super totally awesome. I’ll write more about it and post pictures soon.

Also, I wasn’t able to watch the Glee finale because I was on a plane going from Hawaii to Japan at the time. So, I need to remedy that as soon as possible. (Can’t watch it now because darn iPad doesn’t support Flash.)

And hello and thank you to my new followers! Hope you guys have been enjoying my HP challenge posts. :)
